The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Opened the Meeting on Social Protection in The Presence of International NGOs That Operate in Somalia.

The Ministry of labor and social affair (MOLSA); Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama, chaired consultative meeting which was discussed on ways how to write the national Social protection policy. The ministry who was opened the meeting gave a warm welcome to all the participants of the meeting amongst who were the members of the international Organizations operating in Somalia.

The ministry underlined the importance of the discuss towards on how to write the social protection policy in Somali and how it’s important for the Somalia community at large.

He has gone into detail the significant role of humanitarian agencies in serving the community. He praised in particular the Somali diaspora and the services provided by the Money Transfer Companies that contributed a lot to helping the community.

Minister Salah urged all participants and said that “we cannot imagine your role in protecting the society, for example using the Telephone Cash Transfer to millions of vulnerable people. The importance of this meeting is to find a unified policy for the protection of the Somali Society.

The Minister welcomed the statement of the organizations which is to develop the process of drafting the Social Protection Policy. He sent a congratulatory message to the Italian Government and the Italian Organizations on the implementation of the program for serving the Somali community.

This consultation meeting is jointly organized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Ministry of Planning and the Ministry of Aid and Disaster Management. The meeting was participated by UNICEF, WFP, ILO, UNHCR, WHO, Care, Save the Children, FOA, NRC, GEEL, Islamic Relief, Zamzam Foundation and others.

This meeting was facilitated by an expert from SAMUEL HALL; Kourtnie Schaefer and the advisor from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs; Fardowsa Ahmed Abdullahi.

Also one of the officials from the organizations said that this conference is important for all Aid Organizations in Somalia to contribute the Social Protection System.

Finally, the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Somalia, Hon. Saqar Ibrahim Abdalla briefed the participants on the importance of the protection of the community especially the vulnerable. He emphasized the organizations to take part in drafting the Social Protection Policy.
