Legal and labour relation is one of the departments under the federal ministry of labour and social affairs responsible for the implementation of the Labour Laws; it has five sections namely:-

  • Child Labour Section
  • Foreign Employment Section
  • Trade Union and Industrial  Relation Section
  • Recruiter`s  License/Permit Section
  • Labour Migration Section

Vision

Developing the nation by tripartite cooperation of Government, employer and employee in conformity with the labour laws and implementing in the area of immigration, registration and collecting data of population in line with the National Policy systematically.

Mission

To attain good tripartite relations among government, employer and employee in conformity with labour laws and provide labour information.

Main Functions

  • Emerging peaceful and stable working environment by establishing good tripartite relations among Government, employer and employee.
  • Enforcing labour legislation for getting benefits included in labour laws
  • Enhancing decent work within the nation and overseas, and ensuring to be safe migration.
  • Conducting skills training to upgrade the competitiveness of the workforce.
  • Settling labour disputes in accord with the labour law concerned.
  • Conducting research on labour affairs, and collecting and compiling labour market information.
  • Collaborate and participate in all international and regional labour affairs.
  • Ensuring workers enjoy rights and protections granted under the various labour laws
  • Providing social services for the workers
  • Promoting higher productivity of labour
  • Participation in international labour affairs

Goals of the department

  • Enforcement of the Trade Union Laws, including the registration and supervision of employees and employers organizations.
  • Safeguarding of trade unionism freedoms, including the right to organize
  • Maintain the relationship between employers and employees by defining their rights, duties and regulating their conducts
  • Prepare and submit required Minister reports or forms related to labour relations matters, such as equal employment opportunity (EEO) forms, new hire forms, or minority compensation reports.
