The minister for labor and social affairs of Federal Republic of Somalia Hon. Salah Ahmed Jama has launched the consultation meeting on social protection policy with Muslim Donors Countries and private sectors.

The meeting was going on for some time as a consultation process of Social Protection. The meeting was participated by the Muslim Donor Countries, the private sector, the business people and the civil society. This meeting was jointly organized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Aid and the Ministry of Planning of the Government of Somalia.

It was presented by articles that were facilitated by international experts. There were questions being debated on the approaches of the poor and vulnerable and how these people could let out from the problems and make investments and job creation.

Sudanese Ambassador to Somalia Mohamed Youssouf Icrahim said the poor people should be supported as we are in the month of paying Zaka and get advantage of this Holly month.

“We are required to help people with problems to get advantage during the month of paying Zaka is very important especially to help vulnerable people”

The Ministry of Aid and Disaster Management of the Somali Government, Hamsa Saeed Hamsa noted that the Ministry is committed to assisting the Internally Displaced People and the Social Protection Policy is important for the displaced.

The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Salah Ahmed Jama, who was chairing the meeting noted that the Somali people in the Diaspora have a significant stake in the economy of the country and they are estimated to be sending money to their relatives in the country almost two million dollar and more dollars per year.

During the meeting, Somali businessmen were praised on the job opportunities they offered to the various sectors of their community.

The Aid Organizations that operate in Somalia said that they spend a lot of money on Somalia but do not reach the right people/place. The government of Somalia is pledged to be committed to protecting the rights of the vulnerable people.
