KUWAIT: Under the auspices of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the 42nd session of the General Conference of the Arab Labor Organization (ALO) will be held in Kuwait.

The conference, which goes through April 25, will gather Acting Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and representatives of government organizations, employers, trade unions and experts in socio-economic development from across the Arab world.

The gathering will debate a range of issues foremost among which is the report of the ALO Director General Ahmad Lokman themed ‘social dialogue – materialization of alliance for development and employment,’ Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Planning and Development Affairs Hind Al-Subaih said Thursday.

“The report which falls in six chapters tackles the ALO role in promoting the social dialogue on the national and regional levels as a means of bolstering up the socio-economic development amid the profound changes in the Arab world,” she said at a pre-event press conference. “It analyzes the highly-problematic labor market with emphasis on the social, economic, educational and demographic dimensions of unemployment,” the minister pointed out.

“The recent developments in the Arab countries highlight the need to address the challenges facing the quest for economic development and curb the rising rates of unemployment which impact negatively on our societies particularly at times of tensions,” she went on. “The second agenda item of the conference is the new trends in the social dialogue among the three factors of production.

“The third item tackles the issue of human resources which constitutes an essential part of the strategy of a globalized economy. The fourth is the new models of employment. The fifth is the social dialogue, its frameworks and the parties involved,” the minister went on.
