Arab Labour Conference took place in Cairo with participation of the Somalia

Members discuss ways of cooperation to support the labour sector

 

In its 41st session, the Arab Labour conference started today (Sunday) in Cario – Egypt, witnessing the participation of Somalia and Arab countries labour delegations, alongside 22 international organizations, to discuss issues of work and workers in the Arab world.

 

Somali delegation was led by HE Luqman Ismail Mohamed, Minister of Labour, director of labor  Abdirizak Mo’alim Ilmi, director of social affiars Abdulaahi Adan,  beside Somali’a Ambassador to Egypt and ,secretary of the Ministry of Labour and social Affiars Mohamed Abdi (Sudani).

 

For his part, HE Ahmed Luqman Director-General of the Arab Labour Organization expressed gratitude and honored him with a First Class Independence Medal of its category.

 

Luqman stressed in his speech the importance of providing support to the ministries of labour, chambers of commerce and industry to better achieve labour market stability to improve production and development within Arab countries.

 

For her part, Dr. Nahed Ashri, Minister of Manpower and Immigration in Egypt, President of the Conference, said that Egypt was keen to support the joint Arab cooperation in order to harvest success and excellence in the Arab region as a whole.

 

She pointed out that the “Arab unity in the labour sector” will achieve widespread success amongst Arab countries, stressing the ministry’s keenness to cooperate in order to serve the common interests of the public.

 

Nassar al-Rubaie, Head of the Governing Council of the Arab Labour Organization said in his speech that they hope to come with decisions that will contribute towards enhancing joint Arab cooperation, pointing out that the conference is currently  held under conditions that pose challenges to the Arab nation, which requires strengthening Arab cooperation in the face of these challenges.

 

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Tuwaijri, Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs of the Arab League, addressed poverty and unemployment, calling for the Arab Labour Organization to prepare standards for measuring poverty consistent with the nature of society in the Arab instead of relying on international standards.

 

He pointed to the importance of reformulating Higher Education to support the Arab economy to address poverty and unemployment and to create employment opportunities for around 25 million jobs annually and focus on agriculture to provide food rather than depending on imported.

 

On the other hand, Minister Luqman participated in the 48th coordinaition meeting of the GCC states labour Ministers Council.

 

During the meeting, all members discussed topics with regards to the Arab Labour Conference’s agenda in order to coordinate and cooperate in finding ways of serving common interests and possibilities that would enhance the role of each participating country.

 

The agenda of 41st session of the Arab Labour Conference elected a new Director General to the Arab Labour Organization and discussed reports about the organization and prospects to support the operation and activities of the organization which were discussed in last year’s Conference, which was held in Algiers.

 

The conference will discuss, throughout the coming days, financial issues and the formation of the constitutional bodies and artistic affiliate of the organization including the Board of Directors for the coming years and many other different reports.
